Community Education Services

The Honeybee Education Program (HEP) was founded in 2009 and is a program of the LTM. HEP offers outreach programs to Hawaii Island’s schools and island farmers. HEP was created in response to declines in honeybee populations worldwide as well as locally. HEP’s mission is to benefit Hawaii’s diversified agriculture and potential growth in the beekeeping industry by providing educational services and vocational skills training that will expand the beekeeping community and sustain a healthy population of honeybees, thus preserving tropical agricultural production. HEP’s objective is to provide awareness and understanding about pollination as well as increase the number of beekeepers in the state of Hawaii. In the past two years, HEP has trained over 1,500 students and adults on the Island of Hawaii.
